The Indianapolis Colts currently have a giant question mark at quarterback after the retirement of Philip Rivers, and Jacob Eason hopes that the team gives him a chance to prove he's the man for the job.
Eason was drafted by the Colts in the fourth round of the 2020 draft, and with Jacoby Brissett becoming a free agent, he is currently the only quarterback on the Colts' roster. Many expect Indianapolis to add a quarterback through trade, free agency or the draft, but Eason says that while he knows he needs to continue to improve his game, he believes he can win the starting job if the Colts give him a fighting chance.
"I got a lot of work ahead of me, a lot of areas to improve and grow, but if the opportunity presents itself, I'm going to put my best foot forward and give you the best shot I can," Eason told the Indy Star.
But will Eason get a real shot at starting for the Colts? On the one hand, Indianapolis is sure to at least give Eason a look, as it would be a huge relief to the Colts if they did not have to break the bank or use a draft pick to add a quarterback. But the Colts clearly believe that they are close to competing with the top teams in the AFC, and unless Eason can show them he is ready to lead them to a deep postseason run, it's unlikely that he will get to start.
