Five-run seventh inning propels Braves to win over Marlins

While the final score of Friday's Braves-Marlins game may indicate a blowout, it took a big seventh inning for Atlanta to pull away from its NL East rival.

Atlanta plated five runners in the seventh frame to pull out to a 7-0 lead, which turned into an 8-1 Braves win in game one of the weekend series.

After Marlins starter Trevor Rogers allowed tonly wo earned runs in five innings, Atlanta's bats exploded in the seventh inning. Eight hitters reached base for the Braves in the inning.

The scoring started with a bases-loaded walk for Matt Olson. Marcell Ozuna singled to left, which led to scores by Ronald Acuna Jr. and Ozzie Albies, extending the lead to 5-0. Then infield singles by both Michael Harris II and Orlando Arcia scratched across the final two runs of the seventh.

Marlins reliever George Soriano was charged with three earned runs in the inning, while his colleague, Andrew Nardi, was charged with the final two scores of the seventh.

The Braves' big inning was enough to let them cruise through the rest of Friday's contest, which eventually ended in an 8-1 final score after a solo homer by Ozuna, who continued his hot start to the 2024 season.

Max Fried also turned in a noteworthy performance for the Braves, throwing 6 1/3 innings of one-run baseball, a great outing considering his early-season struggles.

The Braves move to 8-4 with Friday's win and will try to take the series from the struggling Marlins (2-12) on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 4:10 p.m. ET.
